Canada Cartel News Media & Journalistic Standards
Truth Will Out. Canada Cartel is a photojournalism-led, citizen-first Canadian media journal. We publish verified reporting and clearly labeled analysis in Canadian Press (CP) style, and we adhere to the Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ) Ethics Guidelines.
Our adopted standards:
-
Canadian Press (CP) style for grammar, spelling, numbers, dates, titles, and clarity.
-
Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ) Ethics Guidelines (Nov. 2023) for accuracy, independence, fairness, transparency, and accountability.
Reporting Principles
-
Accuracy & verification: Names, titles, dates, locations, and figures are verified before publication. We seek corroboration where feasible and provide clear attribution.
-
Independence & transparency: We disclose material conflicts and label sponsored material and partnerships. Opinion is clearly marked Op-Ed and held to evidentiary standards.
-
Right of reply: For material allegations, we seek comment from relevant parties within a reasonable deadline and include responses or note if none was provided.
-
Minimizing harm: We avoid stereotyping; use care with vulnerable sources; and obtain guardian consent for identifiable minors.
-
Clear labels: Every piece carries a top-line label—News, Photo Essay, Explainer, Profile, or Op-Ed—and shows publish and update timestamps.
Photojournalism Standards
-
Permitted edits: global adjustments (exposure, white balance, crop/straighten, minor noise/dust cleanup).
-
Prohibited: adding/removing content or composites that change the scene; staged news images presented as candid.
-
Captions: Who/What; Where (City, Province); When (Month Day, Year); Context (why it matters).
-
Consent & safety: Extra care for vulnerable subjects; written consent for identifiable minors in sensitive contexts.
Corrections & Updates
If a factual error appears, we correct promptly, add a timestamped note describing what changed, and—if substantive—place a notice at the top or bottom of the article. Readers can report concerns at editorial@canadacartel.ca
Complaints & Accountability
We welcome complaints to editor@canadacartel.ca. We also intend to participate in Canada’s National NewsMedia Council framework so readers have independent recourse for concerns about fairness and accuracy.
Accessibility & Privacy
We publish with alt text, readable contrast, and logical headings; transcripts/captions accompany A/V where possible. We follow Canadian privacy best practices and obtain informed consent when appropriate. (Wix provides tools for data-protection compliance.)
